Peer Review File Lifecycle

RL6 is used in a variety of ways based on the user’s role within the healthcare organization. In RL6:Peer review, there are four types of users: submitter, committee member, reviewer and provider. During the peer review process, users will enter, view, and send data according to their roles and permissions. The ultimate goal is that data flows from the source of the event or feedback and is researched, the reviews are completed by the appropriate users, and the actions are documented and monitored.

The stages of a peer review file lifecycle are as follows:

  1. New – once the file has been submitted (Submitting a Peer Review File), it goes into the state New. Providers and support staff who are on the associated committee can now manage the file.
  2. In-Progress – once the file has been opened and saved by a committee member, it enters the state In-Progress. During this state, a committee member researches and documents the file and assigns reviews. Timeline events and additional details are added to document the findings.
  3. Closed – for some organizations, the end of the file life cycle is when the file gets closed. Closed files can be reopened, if necessary.
  4. Deleted – committee members may delete files that are invalid, duplicate reports or don’t provide sufficient details. This is a “soft” delete, meaning the file is still in the database and can be undeleted.
  5. Note: When a file is closed or deleted, the user must select from a list of administrator-defined statuses. Once closed or deleted, users cannot acknowledge or make changes to a file unless they have the permission "Work on Closed File" enabled for their role.
